Dotcom-Monitor would like to encourage and support female undergraduate students who are pursuing careers in computing by assisting them with the rising cost of higher education. Each year one applicant will be selected to receive the Dotcom-Monitor Women in Computing Scholarship of $1,000 to support their education and pursuit of a career in computing.This scholarship was launched in 2016 by Julia Garbuz, a sophomore at the University of Minnesota studying Computer Science and Management Information Systems while participating in a summer internship at Dotcom-Monitor.

Eligibility

The Dotcom-Monitor Women in Computing Scholarship is open to female students currently enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Canada for the 2016-2017 academic year. Applicants should have either already declared their major or have completed at least one academic year in computer science, computer engineering, or closely related technical field.

Application Details

We will begin accepting applications for the 2016-2017 year on December 1st, 2016. To apply, please submit responses to the questions below along with your college/university transcripts (or other verification of enrollment/major declaration) and general information either through our online application or by mail (send to: 5125 County Road 101, Suite 100, Minnetonka, MN 55345). If submitting online, all documents should be in PDF format. The deadline to apply is March 1st, 2017, at 11:59 PM CT. Contact us with any questions.

Submit essays answering the following three questions. One essay per question—max 500 words per essay.

  1. Who/what inspired you to pursue a degree in a technical field? Why did you select this field of study?
  2. How do you plan to use your degree to further advance the field or make a difference in the world?
  3. Why do you think women should pursue careers in technology? What can women provide to this field? How would you encourage women to join this field?

The winner will be announced by April 1, 2017.
